About US

The leading self-storage firm founded in 1999 with a focus on storage development and operations.

About Nuvo Development

Nuvo provides an exciting new vision of development in the self-storage industry. Imagining new designs and finding creative and successful locations are the mantra for Nuvo.

All of which ties in with a strong focus on Nuvo’s investors. Nuvo works to ensure that its projects yield the highest returns for investors. It is one thing to build basic old-style self-storage facilities, quite another to create inviting and highly functional buildings that will bring in business and keep occupancy rates high. The firm is highly committed to developing best-in-class self-storage facilities by locating superior sites, teaming with strong investors, and thinking outside the box.

The Nuvo Story

Gary Cardamone is a divergent and creative entrepreneur, having a knack for relationship building, project management and feasibility analysis. After having worked in the Medical Device Industry in the late 1990’s, he took an avid interest in self-storage. In 1999, along with his brother Rich as a partner, he developed, owned, and operated over 1.0 million square feet of storage and retail property within the USA Stor-A-Way brand.

During that time, Cardamone learned every aspect of the self storage business, including acquisition of land, managing the entitlement process, securing debt, equity financing, partnership management, project budgeting, operating proforma, coordination of 3rd party development, property management, and lease up to stabilization and divestiture.

Working from behind the desk provided Gary keen insight into the needs of the customer. Managing the growth of a brand, storage platform and eventual divestiture provided Gary experience and knowledge. Gary eventually sold USA Stor-A-Way in early 2007. Due to the volatile economy in 2008, Gary thought creatively. He bootstrapped an electronic payments platform that today processes more than 1.0 billion dollars for more than 3,500 clients totaling more than 1.0 million transactions.

The firm’s direction stems from Mr. Cardamone having developed, owned and operated self-storage facilities. His experience gives him a solid understanding of what works in the industry and how to exercise a new and improved, modern approach into current self-storage development.

Misha Townsend-Cardamone

Founder

Misha Townsend-Cardamone is from Atlanta, Georgia, and after attending Georgia State University, she attended Nursing School at Brenau University and then completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Southern California. She moved to Florida in 1995 and began working for Florida Hospital Waterman where she helped open the Surgery Center and worked there until 1998 when she had her first daughter. She then stayed at home with her two daughters until 2008, when she began to help Gary with bookkeeping from their home-based office. This mother of two daughters and stepmother of two daughters had better ideas for the family guest room. Securing a small office on beautiful Park Avenue was her vision; a place where ideas and hard work would lead to collaboration and success. Her insistence that the business could grow, even in the worst economic conditions, along with her financial investment, provided the spark that was needed. Soon, Misha’s bookkeeping duties were turned over. She now oversees the day-to-day operations of the company, from accounting and draw processing to facility-design standards.

Gary Cardamone

Owner & CEO

Gary Cardamone originally hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but currently calls Winter Park, Florida home. Mr. Cardamone graduated from Clarion University with a degree in Economics and Computer Science. Mr. Cardamone quickly realized his potential as an entrepreneur, having a knack for relationship building, project management, and feasibility analysis. Following a successful stretch in the medical devices business, he shifted his attention to the self-storage asset class, where he saw great potential in the development space. Mr. Cardamone and his brother Rich moved to Central Florida, and in 1999 became self-storage developers and owners, operating seven USA Stor-A-Way facilities. A few years later, Gary bootstrapped an electronic payments platform initially targeting the self-storage industry that today processes more than $1.5 billion for over 4,000 clients, totaling more than 1.5 million transactions. Gary Cardamone has developed, owned, and operated approximately 2,000,000 square feet of self-storage and retail space across various Florida markets, before selling the first round of developments in 2007. In 2014, Mr. Cardamone launched Nuvo Development.
